Governor Walz Joins Governors Calling on Congress to Protect Access to Abortion

Following the leak of a draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Governor Walz joined 16 governors to call on the United States Senate to make legal protections in Roe v. Wade into law.

“Let me be clear: there will never be an abortion ban in Minnesota under my watch. The right to an abortion will be respected in our state as long as I am in office,” said Governor Walz. “However, we must act at the state and federal level to protect access to safe, legal abortion permanently. I was proud to join governors to call on Congress to immediately put protections offered by Roe v. Wade – protections Americans have relied on for almost half a century – into federal law. This is just the beginning, and I will keep fighting to ensure Minnesotans continue to have full access to reproductive health care.”

Governor Walz Announces 2026 USA Special Olympics Games to be Held in Minnesota

On Friday, Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and First Lady Walz visited the University of Minnesota to announce that the 2026 USA Special Olympics Games will be held in Minnesota.

Governor Walz Celebrates Relief for Small Businesses and Frontline Workers in Ceremonial Bill Signing

Governor Walz joined frontline workers and small business owners to sign a bill providing direct payments to frontline workers and replenish the unemployment trust fund. This bill was signed into law Friday evening by Governor Walz. Details for the direct payments to frontline workers, including the application process are available here

“This bipartisan bill will cut costs and save money for small businesses and frontline workers,” said Governor Walz. “I’m grateful for everyone that got us to this point today, and I am hopeful that in the next three weeks we will build on this bipartisan accomplishment and deliver more for Minnesota.”

Governor Walz Proclaims Small Business Week in Minnesota

On the heels of securing a bipartisan agreement and signing a bill to provide relief to small business owners across the state, Governor Walz proclaimed Small Business Week in the state of Minnesota and celebrated by visiting small businesses, including Afro Deli in St. Paul.

In Anticipation of 2022 Fishing Opener, Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Purchase Fishing Licenses and Walleye Stamps

On Tuesday, in anticipation of the 2022 Governor’s Fishing Opener event, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan purchased their fishing licenses and Walleye stamps at the Department of Natural Resources. The Lieutenant Governor will also take part in the Take a Mom Fishing Weekend

Governor Walz Signs Bill Protecting Health and Wellbeing of Minnesota Firefighters

On Tuesday, Governor Walz signed a bill into law to help ensure that Minnesota firefighters continue to have access to much-needed resources to protect their physical and mental health.

“Minnesota’s brave firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” said Governor Walz. “I was proud to sign a bill into law last year to help ensure Minnesota’s firefighters have the resources they need to protect their health and wellbeing as they make a difference in their communities. This bill shows that the work isn’t done and that our firefighters continue to be a top priority here at the Capitol.”

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Join Secretary of the Interior Haaland to Announce Investments for Urban Parks and Equitable Outdoor Access

On Friday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland at Midway Peace Park in St. Paul to announce investments to create new urban parks in Minnesota and across the country. 

Governor Walz Authorizes Minnesota National Guard Support for North Dakota Flood Response

Governor Walz on Friday signed an Emergency Executive Order authorizing Minnesota Army National Guard helicopter support for the State of North Dakota’s flood response. The authorization follows a request from North Dakota officials through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC).

Governor Walz and Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm received their second COVID-19 vaccine booster shots this week at St. Paul Corner Drug, a full-service independent pharmacy in St. Paul.

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Celebrates Success of Operating Engineers Career Pathway Program

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan visited Ziegler over the weekend to meet with members of the Operating Engineers Career Pathway Program and celebrate the program's success. The Operating Engineers Career Pathway Program is one Minnesota's state-funded pathway programs aimed to prepare young Minnesotans for successful careers.

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Attends Event Recognizing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Week

On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan spoke at a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Week event in Minneapolis. The Lieutenant Governor discussed the importance of protecting the safety of Indigenous people and spreading awareness of these issues. 

"On Mwe honor and remember our missing and murdered Indigenous relatives and commit to creating a world where Indigenous people are safe," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "We’ve made incredible progress making sure we’re seen, heard, valued, protected and believed — we won’t go backwards."
