One of the things that is central to the success of our school is the partnership we have with parents.  Our teachers want to hear from you if you have a question about classwork, an assignment, a test or quiz, or something you or your child do not understand.  If a teacher doesn't get back to you, or you have a concern you wish to raise with me or Chandley, please email or call one of us and we will be glad to speak with you.  My experience is a phone call or a face-to-face conference is the best way to solve a problem and/or get the correct information to you when there is a specific question or issue with your son or daughter.  This is the best process to follow and I would like to thank those of you who have called teachers or the office so we may assist you and most of all help each child learn to his or her full potential.  Throughout the year we will continue to have conversations at each grade level (horizontal) and within each department (grades 5-8, vertical) about how to deliver instruction in a way that accomplishes our curricular goals and prepares every student for the next level.  This process is on-going and will continue to be on-going as we seek to improve every year.
 
As each child grows, develops, and we present him or her with new curriculum and new challenges, there will be some "growing pains."  Our collective goal is to come alongside each student (and parent) to help assist in the growing pains and help each student see what he or she can accomplish.  If you have not called a teacher or the office, please take us up on this offer as you need to so we can strengthen the partnership we have.

Along this line of thinking I would like to remind everyone about fall conferences this has been a repeat item for several weeks now.  Our conference dates and times are as follows:

- Monday, October 19th, Wednesday, October 21st, Tuesday, October 27th, and Thursday, October 29th.
- All conferences will be from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Conferences will be scheduled through an on-line website (please see the link posted below) and scheduled through your child's language arts teacher in grades 5, 6, and 7.  The other team members will blend their conference times according to the language arts teacher's schedule.  For grade 8, please schedule those conferences with each individual teacher.

On behalf of the PTO I would like thank everyone who participated in the magazine sale.  Ann Ramos (PTO president) told me it looks like we may have exceeded last year's fund raising total thank you!  The PTO is gearing up for the fall socials for our students.  Details about the socials are repeated below:

Enter school at student drop-off circle entrance. No student will be permitted to leave early unless a parent comes into school to pick up student.

5th/6th Graders!  Halloween Party - Wear a Costume!

Friday October 30, Right After School - 3:00PM-4:30PM

Food, games, music, fun!

$5 Admission Fee. Tickets will be sold at the door and also during lunch 2 days prior to party.

Students can bring costume in backpack. Teachers will allow students to change into costumes at the end of the day prior to party.

Parents should pick up students at student drop-off circle. No student will be allowed to leave prior to the end of party unless a parent comes into school to pick up student.

Students Going Downtown on Fridays

The downtown merchants enjoy extra business, but sometimes middle school students do not clean up after themselves like they should.  Some of the merchants have asked me to pass along to parents some "help" in coaching students about being downtown after school.  I will announce some things to them, but if you could help with regard to etiquette, our merchants would appreciate it. 
 
Fall Math Circles

There is an opportunity for our students to engage in a "math circle," which will bring together students from a variety of school districts who are all very interested in mathematics.  Please note the link if you are interested: http://www.mayersonjcc.org/event/math-circle-3/2015-10-11/
 
There will be five meetings this fall, 2:30 - 4:00 pm on the following Sundays:

October 25
November 8
November 22
December 13
 
On the registration / RSVP form, you will be able to select the dates that you plan to attend. This program is for math-loving kids ages 10-14. There is no cost to attend, but you are asked to register at the link above.
 
Please feel free to share the flyer and the registration link with others who might be interested.  We hope to see you (and your kids) at our fall Circles!
 
Finally, I would like to remind everyone of our early release this Wednesday, October 7th for staff development.  School will be dismissed at 1:30 that afternoon.  Also, Wednesday, October 14th is "Walk to School Day," everyone is invited to participate in this event!  Thanks again for all you do to support our school and partner with us.  Please call the office at 513-561-5555 if you have any questions.
