Dear John, a Workshop Performance

The Museum is excited to collaborate with writer/actress Rachel Lin again for a workshop performance of Dear John. This solo show draws inspiration from real-life events, where in 2011, an estranged father named “John” reached out to a long lost daughter for the first time via Facebook. He begins writing her letters, but she doesn’t reply for years. Until a sudden illness beckons her to confront her hidden past.

The Anna May Wong quarter, minted in Philadelphia, features the first famous Chinese American on a coin. With her name prominently displayed, this quarter features Anna May Wong's profile, created by sculptor John McGraw and designer Emily Damstra.

Born Wong Liu Tsong in 1905 in Los Angeles Chinatown, Anna May Wong pursued her passion for acting, facing discrimination in Hollywood. Her journey, showcased in books like Gail Tsukiyama's The Brightest Star and Yunte Huang's Daughter of the Dragon, marked her as the first Chinese American actress to achieve international stardom, leaving an enduring legacy in the world of film.
