Music has always been an important part of the Hale Family homestead, and we are excited to continue this tradition with our Music in the Valley Folk & Wine Festival! Presented in partnership with Folknet, the weekend highlights the casual and spontaneous nature of folk music as well as a festival schedule of local performances. The best of Ohio wine making will be featured in our Village Green wine garden and our historic sites will be open to explore our unique area history as the Cheesedom–a perfect pairing!

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

-Wine tasting & cheese pairing classes with Marchant Manor Cheese Shop & CLE Urban Winery.
-Ohio Wine Tastings and local food truck festival in our beautiful Living History Village!
-Live folk music across the historic grounds, in partnership with Folknet and the GAR Hall.
-Living history demonstrations and interactive activities exploring music and food history of 19th century northeast Ohio.

Saturday & Sunday Schedule:

10:00am: Hale Farm & Village doors open
11:00am: Wine tents open, Tasting Ticket tent opens
11:00am: Wine Tasting 101 with CLE Urban Winery (pre-register for tasting kit, Main Tent)
11:30am: Old Time Banjo (Gatehouse) Led by Stephen Rapp, with Paul Kirk and Folknet musicians assisting.
12:00pm: Farmer’s Cheese Live Demonstration (Herrick House)
1:00pm: Wine & Cheese Pairing Class with Marchant Manor (pre-register for tasting kit, Main Tent)
1:30pm: Old Time Fiddle (Hale House) Led by Paul Kirk, with Stephen Rapp and Folknet musicians assisting.
2:00pm: Farmer’s Cheese Live Demonstration (Herrick House)
2:00pm - 4:30pm: Live Music on the Village Green live
3:00pm: Farmer’s Cheese Live Demonstration (Herrick House)
3:30pm: Hammered & Appalachian Dulcimer (Meetinghouse), led by Don Gardiner, with Paul Kirk, Steven Rapp, and Folknet musicians assisting.

Sunday only:

2:30pm - 3:15pm: Old Time Fiddle Workshop with Paul Kirk (Hartwell Room–pre-registration required)

Ongoing all weekend:

-Period cooking demonstrations
-Food history highlights–including fermentation talks and ice cream making
-Hands-on activities and try-it-out opportunities for all ages (family friendly!)
-Pop-up collection exhibits on entertaining in the 19th century

Wine Classes & Tasting Kits:

Wine Classes: These classes are open to all to listen & enjoy, but to get the most out of the experience pre-register for the class tasting kit and join in the fun!

Tasting Kits for each class are available for purchase online at the link below for those 21+, valid ID required at pick-up. Limited kits may be available for day-of purchase–but we strongly recommend pre-registering!

Wine Tasting 101: Good Wine Made Fun! | 11am (Entertainment Tent)

Tasting Kit: $20
Join CLE Urban Winery owner Destiny Burns as she shares basic tasting tips and explores how to make good wine fun! Tasting kits include three CLE Urban Winery sample tubes and a paired fun bite for each.

Snack & Sip: Cheese & Wine Pairing Class | 1pm (Entertainment Tent)

Tasting Kit: $22
Dr. Kandice Marchant leads participants through three samples of artisanal cheeses, paired with a full 5oz glass of wine from CLE Urban Winery.
