Arts and Entertainment

October 3, 2025

Saratoga Springs, NY - Nacre Dance Group is proud to announce two free community masterclasses as part of its Light and Shadow: The Teachings of Charles Weidman initiative, supported by Dance Alliance. The workshops will be held on Sunday, November 2 and Sunday, November 9 from 12:00–2:00 PM at Saratoga City Ballet, and are open to area dancers ages 14 and up.

Led by Artistic Director Beth Fecteau, the masterclasses will provide participants with a unique opportunity to explore Charles Weidman’s historic solos Echo Air and Mankind-two of the most iconic sections of his full-length masterpiece, The Christmas Oratorio. Both solos will be featured in Nacre’s highly anticipated production of The Christmas Oratorio on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs.

Each workshop will include:

- A solo performance by Nacre student understudies Madison Nesbitt and Maya Kakaty

- A technique class focused on key choreographic motifs

- A discussion of costuming, symbolism, and interpretation

- An opportunity for participants to experience movement in costume

“We are thrilled to share the legacy of Charles Weidman with our community,” said Fecteau.

“These free classes allow dancers to deepen their understanding of modern dance while connecting directly to a historic work they will see fully realized in performance.”

Workshops are free, but space is limited. Early registration is encouraged at www.nacredance.org/oratorio.

Nacre’s Christmas Oratorio promises to be a breathtaking experience, blending Weidman’s visionary choreography with the exquisite music of Bach. The production will feature live orchestra, choir, and opera soloists under the direction of Noah Palmer, creating an unforgettable performance for Capital Region audiences.

To make the day even more special, audiences are invited to enjoy a Holiday Tea by Chocolate Is Self Care prior to each show, along with festive activities such as decorating a community dance tree and photo opportunities with the beautifully costumed cast.

Performance Schedule (December 14, 2025):
