The National Museum of Civil War Medicine (NMCWM) is proud to be the inspiration for one of the proposed names for the Frederick Baseball Team.

As part of the process to name the new Frederick Atlantic League Professional Baseball Club, Attain Sports & Entertainment is opening a Fan Vote. The Fan Vote will be one of many criteria used to select the new team name for the Frederick Club. 

According to Attain Sports & Entertainment: "One of the choices for the new team name is 'Sawbones.' This name is a nod to the NMCWM. During the Civil War, doctors got so good at their craft that they earned the nickname 'Sawbones.' This name sounds tough, is full of history, and honors an undervalued group of people from that period in time."

"The National Museum of Civil War Medicine remembers an important point in the history of our country," said David Price, Executive Director of the NMCWM. "Sawbones links to the history of the region, shows grit and determination, and honors an essential group of people—our front-line medical workers."

The Fan Vote will run through 11:59 PM on Friday, 2/17.
