Forese Family Pool Scheduled to Reopen December 15

Dear members,

I’m writing to provide an update on the status of our Forese Family Pool project. I am pleased to report that tremendous progress has been made. Our contractors have remained diligent and dedicated in addressing the areas in need of repair and ensuring this spectacular aquatic facility will provide a long lifetime of service to our members.

Over the summer, all of the tile from our pool deck and gutter surround was removed and is now in the final stages of being reinstalled. As the work progressed, our contractors identified additional necessary repairs including the installation of drainage on the deck to address puddling. While certainly an inconvenience to us all, these required repairs will ensure the pool deck’s durability and performance over its intended lifetime. During this time, we also removed and powder-coated all stainless steel surfaces to clean them and prevent rusting, replaced nonfunctioning underwater lights, improved overhead lighting, improved our Scooter Pool water features, and conducted HVAC maintenance.

I am very satisfied with the quality of work that has been completed to date and am confident that we are about to reopen this treasured community resource stronger than ever and ready to serve for generations to come.

We are embarking on the final phase of the project, which entails replastering the pools. While the end is certainly near, I am writing to let you know that unfortunately, the Forese Family Pool complex is now scheduled to reopen on December 15th.

Please know that our contractors are very aware of our eagerness to reopen, and if the work is completed earlier, we will reopen as soon as possible.

Beginning October 16:

Access to the Valles Pool via the wet hallway (hallway behind the locker rooms) will be restored. Members will be able to access the Valles Pool using our typical route through the Forese Pool doors.

Beginning December 15:

All competitive teams will return to their on-site schedules. Coaches will be in touch regarding scheduling specifics.

All youth swim lessons will return to the Forese Pools. Additional lesson options will be available beginning with Winter session 2 including the return of our parent/child classes.

Adult lap time will be reinstated and available in both the Forese Family Pool and Valles Pool.

Water fitness classes will return to their previous schedule/location

Additional free swim times will again be available and will return to the Forese Family Pool

We are all eager to return to our beloved pools and I want to thank you again for your flexibility and understanding these past few months. Thank you to our teams who have been practicing at off-site locations and excelling at their summer meets; to our young swimmers who have been becoming stronger and more confident in the cooler water temperatures; to our water fitness participants who have been flexible in location and always have a smile on their faces when together; and our many lap swimmers who have been flexible with scheduling and utilizing other resources as they maintain their health and fitness routines.

Our membership reciprocity benefits remain available with our neighboring Ys during this time, which are included below for easy reference.

I would like to express my most sincere apologies for the inconvenience this closure has caused for our members who use the pools, as well as my appreciation for your flexibility, support, and understanding that while inconvenient, this temporary closure was necessary and will result in a pool complex that is better functioning, more durable, easier to maintain, and built to support our community for many, many years to come.

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions and thank you for being a part of our New Canaan YMCA community.
