What's New at the Y

Achieving Greatness Together

Youth Basketball League 2022-2023

For Boys, Grades K-12

For Girls, Grades K-8

The goal of the Y-Ball program is to develop the whole basketball player; providing each participant with an opportunity to improve basketball skills, develop gameplay, and build friendships, all while having fun and fostering a love for the game.

Registration for the Y's 2022-2023 Youth Basketball League (Y-Ball) is currently available online on the Y's membership portal.

Important Dates:

K-8th registration ends Friday, November 7
High School registration ends Thursday, December 8

YSN Halloween Fall Festival

Hosted by 21 Strong & the New Canaan YMCA

Grab your family and friends and let's boogie! Join us for our YSN Halloween Fall Festival on Sunday, October 23 from 4:00-6:00 PM for the special needs community and friends! Costumes optional.

Event is FREE & open to the community!

Photo Booth • Kid Zone • DJ Dance Party • Sports • Snacks • Pizza

Fall Fitness Fest

MOSSA Launch Party

Join us on Saturday, October 8 for a MOSSA launch party featuring four new group exercise classes!

Open to New Canaan YMCA members on a first come, first served basis. Bring a friend as a guest and enjoy this fun and energetic launch party! Sign up available on the day of the event.

MOSSA LAUNCH PARTY CLASS LINE-UP:

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8:

7:45 AM: Group Power • Group Exercise Center

Combines traditional strength training with full-body, innovative exercises using an adjustable barbell, weight plates, body weight, a step, heart-pounding music, and expert coaching from your favorite Y instructors.

9:00 AM: Zumba • Group Exercise Center

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away.

10:00 AM: Group Blast • Group Exercise Center

This highly effective workout will get your heart pounding and sweat pouring as you improve your cardio fitness, agility, coordination, power, and strength with exciting music and motivational coaching from your favorite Y instructors.

11:00 AM: Group Centergy • Group Exercise Center

Incorporates yoga and Pilates fundamentals with athletic training for strength, balance, mobility, and flexibility. Emotive music drives the experience as you breathe and sweat through this full-body movement journey. Note: please bring your own mat.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9:

9:00 AM: Group Fight • Group Exercise Center

Combine the hottest, adrenaline-fueled MMA movements from the boxing ring to the fighting cage with cutting-edge exercises from outside the octagon. Thrilling music and motivational coaching will get you fighting fit.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

Hosted by Griffin Health & the New Canaan YMCA

Tuesday, October 11 • 12:00-6:00 PM

Location: New Canaan YMCA

Vaccines will be administered by Griffin Health and will include:

• Ages 6 months-12 years: children's doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines
• Ages 12 and older: updated bivalent Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

Please bring a health insurance card, your vaccination card, and photo ID if you have them, but it is not necessary to have health insurance, a vaccination card, or an ID to receive the vaccine.

No one will be turned away for lack of insurance, vaccination card, or ID.

New Fall Preschool Program!

Growing with STEM (Ages 3-5)

Do you have a preschooler who is interested in clouds, or why they have a shadow? If so, this program is for them! Growing with STEM will launch your child into STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) with age-appropriate activities and games.

Growing with STEM begins Friday, October 21, register today!

Youth @ the Y & Middle School Night

Have Fun with Friends at the Y!

Youth @ the Y (Grades 1-4)

Saturday, October 22 • 6:30-9:00 PM

Elementary schoolers will be divided into groups and led by Y staff to various stations around the Y where events will be run by specialist staff. Activities include use of the Forese Family Pool, Group Exercise Center, Wagner Room, Gymnasium, and Kid Zone.

Advance registration is mandatory and available online or at the Front Desk. $30/Members & $40/Non-Members.

Middle School Night (Grades 5-8)

Saturday, October 29 • 7:00-9:30 PM

One Saturday each month, middle schoolers get the Y all to themselves, with access to the Wellness Center, Group Exercise Center, Basketball in the Gymnasium, Forese Pool, and Wagner Room. Not only will there be plenty of fun games and activities but also a concession stand with snacks, drinks, and pizza!

Advance registration is available online or at the Front Desk. $15/Members, $25 Non-Members, & $30/All at Door.

Lost and Found

If you LOST it, we may have FOUND it!

If you are missing any items that you think you could have misplaced while at the Y, please take a look in our Lost & Found cabinet. The cabinet is located in the Wet Hallway (on the way to the pools) at the Y. Items found include various articles of clothing, water bottles, and goggles. Please note that unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of the month.

Rainbow Station Infant-Preschool Teacher (Full-Time)

If you love working with children, we want to hear more about YOU! The New Canaan YMCA's Rainbow Station Infant-Preschool program is looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and nurturing candidates to join our team.

Our classroom teachers work together to provide a program to foster children’s social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth. Our childcare classes participate in YMCA programming departments, including professional swim instruction, Bouncing Bears gymnastic time, music classes and more, all within the regular weekly schedule.
