Government and Politics

September 20, 2022

From: Town of Longmeadow

Longmeadow residents will have three options for leaf disposal: 1) use the Town Pay As You Throw (PAYT) curbside leaf collection program; 2) hire a private contractor for leaf removal; or 3) purchase a Recycling Center sticker and transport leaves directly to the Meadows leaf composting site on West Road.

The Town of Longmeadow will provide a curbside-bagged leaf collection program again this fall. Curbside collection of the Town PAYT leaf bags will be held on Saturday, November 5th, Saturday November 19th, and Saturday, December 3rd. This schedule is subject to change due to weather. Residents who are putting leaf bags out for collection are advised to have them to the curb by 7:00 am on those Saturday mornings. These collections are weather dependent.

Town of Longmeadow PAYT leaf bags are available for purchase at Longmeadow Big Y and Carr-Brightwood Hardware in Enfield. The cost for the bags is $5 for a roll of 10 bags.  Bags will go on sale Monday, September 26th.

The drop off area in the Meadows off of West Road will open for the season on Saturday, October 15th and will remain open to residents and contractors through Sunday, December 6th, weather permitting.  The hours of operation will be from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, seven days per week with the exception of Thanksgiving Day.  A current Recycling and Yard Waste Center sticker is required for residents to use the West Road leaf drop-off site.  Contractors must purchase prepaid permits at the DPW office.

The Recycling and Yard Waste Center will begin fall hours on Saturday, November 5th. The Recycling Center will only be open on Saturdays only from 8 am -3pm beginning November 5th through December.   The hours will change again to Saturdays only 9:00 am-12 noon beginning in January through roughly March 2023.   Exact dates will be announced.

Be sure to check the Town’s website, Facebook page, our local cable TV station and the media for more information about this program. Please call the DPW office (567-3400) or email [email protected] for any questions or concerns.
