Zofia W. Piekielniak, age 71, beloved wife of Andrzej B. Piekielniak of Derby, died peacefully on April 4, 2024 at Griffin Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wola Medrzechowska, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Zygmund and Stefania Wadas. Mrs. Piekielniak immigrated to the United States in March 1963 and settled in Bridgeport, until moving to Derby in 1986. She was a Communicant of St. Michael Church of Bridgeport and St. Michael Church of Derby. Mrs. Piekielniak worked as a medical records coordinator at Bridgeport Hospital for 35 years and then at Yale New Haven Hospital for 7 years, until the time of her retirement in 2019. She enjoyed trips to the casinos and playing the slots, gardening and tending to her hummingbird feeders. Mrs. Piekielniak was renowned for her culinary skills, often cooking fabulous meals for family and friends. She was especially proud of her Polish specialties, made from family recipes. Mrs. Piekielniak had a passion for all animals, but especially for her mini dachshund grand-dog, “Bo”. In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by her devoted children, Andrzej B. Piekielniak, Jr. of Seymour and Sophie Krochko and her husband, Andrew of Milford; a sister, Janice Demas of TX; a brother, Peter Wadas of Westport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Wadas.

Friends and Family may call on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will take place from the Wakelee Memorial on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.
