Oktoberfest 2015

Arts and Entertainment

August 25, 2015

From: Oktoberfest Zinzinnati

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, presented by Samuel Adams, is the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the country and the second largest in the world. With more fest tents and bier gardens than ever before, here's what's on tap:
Event Schedule:

Ninth Annual Running of the Wieners
Friday, September 18
12pm | Fountain Square
Before the Oktoberfest Zinzinnati festivities begin, one dachshund will be named, "King of the Wiener Dogs!"

Gemuetlichkeit Games
Friday, September 18
1pm | Fountain Square
On Friday, watch the Gemuetlichkeit (goodwill) Games including the Beer Stein Race and Beer Barrel Roll!

Opening Ceremonies
Saturday, September 19
11:30am | Fountain Square
Join Oktoberfest goers on Saturday for the official opening ceremonies and keg tapping on Fountain Square. Sam Adams founder Jim Koch will be tapping the keg!

World's Largest Chicken Dance
Date/Time TBA | Fountain Square
One of the favorite events at Oktoberfest is the World's Largest Chicken dance. One of the ways this celebration distinguishes itself from the others is the chicken dance - thousands of dancers have congregated every year since 1994 when Zinzinnatians set the record for the largest Chicken Dance in the world.

Mike's Hard Tug O' War
Sunday, September 20
11:00am | Fifth & Sycamore Streets
32 teams of eight will test their strength and compete for prizes in fierce match-ups of Tug O' War. Prizes are also awarded for the best dressed team. Click above to learn more and register your team.

Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Championship
Saturday, September 19
5:00pm | Fountain Square
Raise your Beer! How long can you raise your beer stein? The Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Championship, a contest of grit, determination, strength and the desire to drink the contents of the stein, will take place on Fountain Square after a series of preliminary events hosted at local bars and pubs. The winner will be crowned the Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Champion. Visit Sam Adams' website for details on preliminary rounds.

World Brat Eating Championship
Sunday, September 20
5:00pm | Fifth & Broadway
These weapons of mass digestion will show Zinzinnati the true meaning of intestinal fortitude!

Larger Than Life Glockenspiel
Every hour on the hour Sept. 18-20 | Fifth & Broadway
An actual working clock with a bar on the ground level and a stage above the bar. Every hour on the hour when the clock strikes, the music kicks in and entertainers emerge on the stage to ring in the hour with dances, toasts and souvenirs for the crowd. Expect celebrity guest entertainers during certain hours, too!

Look for Fritz, Oktoberfest's Top Dog
No event is perfect without a mascot. Fritz, an authentically German Dachshund, will be making appearances at the Running of the Wieners race, chicken dance and many other Oktoberfest locations. Dachshunds are of German origin and they are affectionately known as the wiener or sausage dog. A primary element of every Oktoberfest celebration is the serving of wieners and sausages. Frtiz is also a nod to our Running of the Wieners event which has preceded the Opening of Oktoberfest for the last several years.

Live Music
Enjoy live music all weekend long in five different beer gardens.
