Out-of-Stater Navigator: Tim Sheehy's Anti-Freedom Abortion Ban

Government and Politics

April 5, 2024

Montanans know the truth: Tim Sheehy is dead set on stripping away their reproductive freedoms – and his endorsers are making that obvious.

This week, one of Sheehy’s top endorsers, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA), said they are urging Donald Trump to back a national abortion ban. They already implement a national abortion ban “litmus test” for their endorsed candidates.

SBA is also working alongside a coalition of anti-choice groups to lobby Republicans in Congress to gut access to IVF treatment. Sheehy is in lockstep with SBA – he has refused to support federal protections for IVF access.

Meanwhile, Vanity Fair pointed out some of Sheehy’s glaring weaknesses, including his call to “return health care to pure privatization.”

SHEEHY AND HIS ENDORSERS BACK NATIONAL ABORTION BAN

While Sheehy tries to hide his deeply unpopular, anti-choice position, his endorser, SBA, has made it clear where their endorsed candidates stand: Sheehy supports a national abortion ban.

After Trump said he would make a statement on abortion next week, SBA said, “We have every hope and indication President Trump will argue for a” national abortion ban.

SBA has a national abortion ban “litmus test” for any candidates they endorse – Sheehy is the only Republican Senate candidate in a competitive race to receive an endorsement from SBA this cycle.

SHEEHY’S EXTREME ENDORSERS WANT TO GUT ACCESS TO IVF TREATMENT

New reporting from POLITICO reveals how anti-choice groups are working to lobby Congress to gut access to IVF treatment – including SBA. Sheehy refused to back federal protections for fertility treatment and falsely claimed via a spokesperson that “no one is talking about banning [IVF].

SHEEHY CAN’T HIDE FROM GLARING WEAKNESSES

In a new editorial from Vanity Fair, Sheehy’s mounting weaknesses are on full display. From being a wannabe cowboy to calling to “return health care to pure privatization,” Sheehy’s background and positions are as unpopular as they are unelectable.

Read excerpts from the Vanity Fair editorial below:

- “Sheehy, a self-styled rancher who similarly lacks any political experience, wants to get rid of the Department of Homeland Security—that is, the department that deals with the border, which Republicans (pretend to) care a lot about.”

- “He’d also like to ‘return health care to pure privatization,’ and has absurdly blamed high hospital bills on a ‘subsidy system that’s got perverse incentives.’”
