Patty's Price Hikes, Part IV: Let Them Eat Salt

Pasco, WA – FOUR words you’ll hear over and over again from Patty Murray this election: “Cutting Middle Class Taxes.” Bottom Line: Patty the THREE-decade politician voted to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for tax cuts on the rich.

Patty and her dark money allies are running this ad in Washington State, trying to convince voters she will fight for middle class tax cuts:

Her empty empathy for the middle class is an attempt to hide her voting record:

-December 2017: The State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction – that mainly benefitted “high-income taxpayers in high-tax states” – was capped at $10,000 when Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Patty voted against it.

-February 2021: Republicans offered a measure to prevent Congress from changing the 2017 SALT deduction cap. Patty voted against it.

-August 2021: Republicans again offered a measure to prevent Congress from repealing the 2017 SALT deduction cap. Patty voted against it.

In November 2021, the House passed their so-called “Build Back Better” legislation. Patty immediately declared her support for this legislation and called it “good for families” and “good for our nation’s economy.”

We don’t know which experts Patty has been talking to. The facts show:

-This bill gives most millionaires … a tax cutby increasing the SALT deduction cap from $10,000 to $80,000 – something experts called “a baffling tax gift to the wealthy.”

-How is it paid for? A tax increase on 30 percent of the middle class.

-The bill would also shrink the economy, increase the deficit, kill jobs and worsen inflation.

Patty’s SALT heavy diet would be bad for Washingtonian families and our economy. She will be held to account this November for the Price Hikes she supports on Washington State’s middle class.
