Palm Beach now offers resident parking stickers

The town is rolling out a new parking sticker program for the benefit of Palm Beach residents.

Today (Monday, Nov. 13) is the first day that residents can buy the stickers, which enable them to park their vehicles in paid parking spaces anywhere in town, free of charge for two hours, without having to use the ParkMobile app.

The annual stickers are $50 each, with a limit of two per household. They will be good from today through Dec. 31, 2024, according to Bob Miracle, the town’s deputy town manager for finance and administration.

This year’s stickers are pink. The color will vary each year.

“This is the first townwide sticker program for residents,” Miracle said. “They have not been on sale before now.”

The resident sticker offering is part of a seven-point parking management plan approved by the Town Council this year.

The plan includes a sweeping expansion of paid parking spaces throughout Midtown, on Worth Avenue and in the Town Marina district, Miracle said. The expansion is planned to take effect in the spring, when new parking signage indicating the change becomes be available for installation.

Currently, paid parking primarily exists in the Midtown Beach area, the Mandel Recreation Center parking lot off Royal Palm Way, in the middle block of Peruvian Avenue, and in the Phipps Ocean Park parking lot.

The parking management plan was developed by the council’s Business and Administrative Committee after two years of study with input from the public. The primary goal of paid parking is to quicken the turnover of parking spaces as part of an overall effort to reduce traffic congestion.

Lew Crampton is chairman of the two-member committee, which also includes Bobbie Lindsay.

“The whole idea is to solve the parking problem, which is ranked at the top of the list of residents’ complaints, but to do it in a way that puts residents first,” Crampton said. “I think for residents the stickers will be a kind of badge of residency. They are available at a very nominal cost and are kind of colorful and interesting.”

Residents can purchase the stickers by logging onto the town’s website, townofpalmbeach.com.

Residents will need to upload a document that provides proof of town residency. The easiest way to do that is to use a current utility bill that shows their address, Miracle said.

Residents select the number of stickers they wish to buy and indicate whether they want them mailed to them or if they will pick them up at Town Hall.

You can pay using a credit card.

Residents also have the option of scheduling an appointment at Town Hall if they wish to purchase the stickers that way, Miracle said. They can schedule the appointment on the town’s website.

The town continues to administer residential permit parking, block by block, on streets that qualify for that program, Miracle said.

Both the residential parking permit and the townwide permit are purchased by the calendar year. Residents who purchase both will receive a combined sticker indicating each one, Miracle said.

“We’ve heard from residents wanting a program like this, so we’re excited to roll this out,” Miracle said.
