Berlin – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after holding a bilateral meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany at the Federal Chancellery and a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock of Germany at the Federal Foreign Office:

“Today, I had the privilege to meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to salute our German allies for their leadership in supporting Ukraine and to discuss ways to further strengthen our valued partnership.

“Under the strong leadership of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany has been a steadfast partner for peace and security during this challenging moment for Democracy.  In our meeting, I commended his leadership and that of Germany in providing Ukraine with security and humanitarian support and holding Russia accountable.  We discussed how our nations can continue our close collaboration, together with our G7 and European partners, to ensure that Ukraine is victorious, while protecting energy security and the financial security of families on both sides of the Atlantic in the face of Putin’s war.

“I was also honored to meet with German Foreign Minister Baerbock: a strong leader who brings great energy to key shared priorities, including climate, global security and stability, supply chain resilience and democracy.  In our meeting, we discussed how our nations can continue to closely work together to advance our shared interests and values across the Atlantic and around the world.

“These meetings followed a day of formal sessions and meetings of the G7 Speakers’ Summit, hosted by the President of the Bundestag Bärbel Bas.”
