WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) released the following statement ahead of President Biden’s visit to Bay City, Michigan to highlight investments to bolster domestic manufacturing, create good-paying jobs and strengthen our economy:

“Michigan is the backbone of American manufacturing and home to the greatest workers in the world. President Biden’s return to Michigan reaffirms this fact and comes after we’ve worked together to pass historic legislation into law – including the CHIPS and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act – to bolster domestic manufacturing and enter a new era of American ingenuity.

“I was proud to lead the charge to boost American manufacturing of semiconductor chips, including for our auto sector, in the CHIPS and Science Act – which is a game changer for Michigan and our manufacturers. These critical investments will help keep Michigan workers at the forefront of innovation, strengthen our supply chains, lower costs for families, create good-paying jobs – including union jobs – and secure our economic future. I’ll continue working to build on our recent progress and cement our place as global leaders in manufacturing.”

Peters has made strengthening domestic manufacturing a top priority during his time in the Senate. He helped author and pass the CHIPS and Science Act, which includes a provision he and Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI) secured to boost the auto sector’s manufacturing of semiconductor chips. Peters also supported and helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will strengthen domestic manufacturing and create millions of American jobs.
