Pocomoke City is surely blessed to have several historic museums in the downtown area. One of these of course, is the famous Costen House museum built by Dr. Isaac Costen shortly after the Civil War.

The Costen House is a fine example of Victorian Italianate architecture and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum is tended to year round by an all volunteer committee of just a few that work hard to preserve history for all of us to share and learn from.

Each year the committee invests in sending out membership donation forms to help raise the funds needed to keep the museum going. The funds are very carefully used to restore the constantly aging home, and the beautiful Hall-Walton Memorial Gardens behind the home.

The two people that took an interest in the preservation of Costen House early on were Ernest and Julia Hall Walton. Both were Pocomoke City natives, and Julia, a cousin of the Costen children, had grown up in a big brick house around the corner from the Costen House. She had happy memories of playing in the adjoining gardens as a child and her lovely wedding there in the early twentieth century.

Recently, new photographs were taken of the garden and exterior of the museum. A few of these are shown here.

We encourage you to give generously during this donation drive to continue the work and preservation of the Costen House Museum. Please visit the Costen House Museum at http://costenhousemuseum.org/ for more information and opportunities to volunteer.
