A proposal has been submitted to rename the Alamo Wash Greenway to Jonathan Rothschild Alamo Wash in recognition of Jonathan Rothschild who served as mayor of the City of Tucson from 2011-2019. The Alamo Wash Greenway connects the Rillito River Walk to Aviation Parkway. It traverses Wards 2, 4, and 6.

Throughout his tenure as mayor, Rothschild advocated for all of the elements reflected in the proposed design for the greenway. Those include enhanced greenspace, bike and pedestrian connectivity, shade trees, lighting, and all the benefits of a shared-use path. This honor will recognize Rothschild's work in support of Proposition 407, Tucson Delivers Great Parks + Strong Connections. Through his strong advocacy, voters overwhelmingly approved the $225 million bond, and as such, more than $13 million is dedicated to the build-out of this path in Phases 2 and 3, including funding for way-finding and other signage.

A 45-day public comment period is now open pursuant to City of Tucson AD 1.02-19 and will close on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 11:59 p.m. Comments should be mailed to Tucson Parks and Recreation Director Lara Hamwey, 900 S.
