REMINDER: While Zeldin Campaigns on Long Island, Reminder that He Voted Against Delivering Millions of Infrastructure Dollars to Help His Home Town

New York, NY - As Lee Zeldin campaigns at Brookhaven airport later tonight on Long Island, New Yorkers should know that the Republican gubernatorial nominee voted against the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which allocated $1.48 million dollars for Brookhaven Airport in Zeldin’s own hometown of Shirley.

The bipartisan bill will deliver a combined $6 million for seven airports on Long Island to make critical improvements to runways, taxiways, terminals, and safety and sustainability projects. None of this would have been possible if Zeldin had gotten his way and torpedoed the bill.

This vote is not the first time Zeldin has put MAGA Republicans before his own constituents in Congress: he has repeatedly rejected bills that lower costs, strengthen the economy, and create good-paying jobs in New York. Recently, Zeldin voted against critical job-creating projects made possible by the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, calling into question his ability to generate economic growth in this state.

“While Lee Zeldin campaigns in his own district, let’s remember that he actively voted against projects that would benefit his constituents and bring economic investment into his own backyard,” said New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay S. Jacobs. “It’s clear Zeldin doesn’t care about his constituents, the New York State economy, or public service, and he is the wrong choice for New York.”
