Rep. Allen Co-Sponsors Bill To Defund Irs Enforcers And Codify Tax Break For Americans

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) co-sponsored legislation to remove funding for the 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents hired to conduct tax audits on middle-income Americans.

The Defunding the IRS Army Act, introduced by Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03), would rescind the partisan Inflation Reduction Act’s $80 billion in new IRS funding, which would increase audits on thousands of individuals earning less than $75,000 per year.

This legislation would instead use those funds to permanently reduce Americans’ tax burden by codifying the increase to the standard deduction first passed under the 115th Republican-led Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which is set to expire in 2025.
