Rep. Mace Reintroduces Standing With Mom's Act Alongside Senator Marco Rubio

Legislation will create a resource hub for women in every state to access a comprehensive network of family planning resources

Today, Rep. Mace released the following statement on the Introduction of her Standing with Moms Act:

“It’s important we provide women with the family planning resources they need to carry a healthy baby to term and succeed as new mothers,” said Rep. Mace. “The Standing with Moms Act will create a website called life.gov. This site will serve as a resource portal providing pregnant women in every state access to the most comprehensive network of resources available at the federal, state and local level as well as in the private sector. We’re partnering with Senator Marco Rubio who is introducing the Senate companion to ensure expecting mothers are supported across the country.”

Senator Rubio shared his remarks on the new legislation:

“Pregnant and newly parenting mothers should not be left in the dark, nor should they be pushed toward abortion. Instead, they should have easy access to the resources they need to look after their babies. This bill would help make that a reality.” –  Senator Rubio

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America shared her thoughts:

“With the myriad of public and private services and resources for expecting moms and families available, the Standing With Moms Act, which would create life.gov, would provide a tool to help moms and supportive dads navigate resources available for their family,” says Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the nation’s largest women’s public policy organization. “This tool will ensure that moms know the resources available to them within their zip code: housing, education, healthcare, legal assistance, adoption, mentoring, and more. Knowledge is power, and moms and anyone facing an unexpected pregnancy will see they are not alone when they use life.gov.”

Melissa Ohden, President and CEO of the Abortion Survivors Network shared her thoughts:

"The Abortion Survivors Network Representative applauds Nancy Mace and Senator Marco Rubio for introducing a bill that emphasizes the importance of life and provides resources to expecting parents as they welcome the next generation of Americans into their families. In addition, supporting life at every gestational age will help women understand that they can make a choice everyone can live with—including their unborn child—and that abortion is not a solution to a pregnancy,” said Melissa Ohden, President and CEO of the Abortion Survivors Network. “This legislation is a crucial step towards acknowledging the risks of abortion, identifying services necessary to treat complications after abortion, and providing support for abortion survivors and their families.”

Background:

The Standing with Mom’s Act is the first in a series of bills introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace to support women in the 118th congress.

The Standing with Moms act directs HHS to create and maintain a family planning website called life.gov to give pregnant women in every state access to the most comprehensive network of family planning resources possible at all levels of government and private sector resources tailored to their specific needs and location in these areas:

-Education

-Healthcare

-Childcare

-Mental health

-Legal support

-Financial assistance

-Prenatal care

This bill also updates HHS’s Maternal Mental Healthcare hotline to ensure expecting mothers have access to around the clock assistance to help navigate these resources.

The legislation is endorsed by National Righ to Life, Concerned Women for America, Abortion Survivor’s Network, Americans United for Life and March for Life.
