WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement to mark the start of the 118th Congress.

"House Democrats have a track record of delivering for families, and as we mark the start of the 118th Congress, we are ready to get to work on behalf of everyday Americans," said Espaillat. "Whether it’s bringing our economy back to life in the wake of a deadly pandemic, making unprecedented investments in infrastructure, passing gun safety legislation, bringing manufacturing jobs back home, combating the climate crisis, or driving down the cost of life-saving prescription drugs, my Democratic colleagues and I have delivered.

"As we enter the 118th Congress, I remain committed to building on my achievements for my constituents and communities around the nation, while working to lower costs, protect immigrant rights, create better-paying jobs, and make our communities safer. I have worked on a bipartisan basis since first coming to Congress to tackle the pressing issues facing Americans, and I stand ready to work with partners on the other side of the aisle to address the challenges that lie ahead,” he continued.

"Today, as we kicked started the first legislative day of the new year, we witnessed House Republicans in turmoil, chaos and confusion. As MAGA extremism runs rampant among their ranks, House Republicans are fighting each other, instead of fighting inflation, and they are attacking the freedoms and rights of Americans instead of addressing the problems that working families face.

"As the early days of House Republicans’ majority and their efforts to elect a Speaker have been filled with chaos, confusion and crisis, I remain committed to delivering for my constituents and the American people this Congress, putting their interests first and foremost as we move forward in the new year."
