When their beloved mailman Robert was recently off for a couple of days, residents of The Buckingham senior living community joined forces to collect canned goods and other food items to surprise him and help him win the Postal Food Drive for his area.

"Everyone loves Robert the Mailman," said Pam Ortiz, lifestyles director for The Buckingham. "I saw the Postal Food Drive on the news at home. Robert was out of town, so we got the sub mailman to give us the information. Robert has never asked us to participate in anything like this. It was such a joy to surprise him with our collection of food items. We were able to fill the entire back of his mail truck!"

While Robert was off, Pam and others made flyers to put in all of the residents' mailboxes, posted info online and in elevators around the community. They set up a collection headquarters and were able to gather a large number of items before Robert returned. Robert was completely surprised and thrilled to get the donation.
