Orleans, MA - The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named local painter Robert Cardinal as this year's guest artist for the 25th Annual Cape Cod Five Pops in the Park concert at Eldredge Park in Orleans featuring the Cape Symphony conducted by Artistic Director, Jung-Ho Pak.
Mr. Cardinal has been commissioned to create this year's commemorative painting and limited edition lithograph, which will be unveiled at a reception in his honor Wednesday June 25th as part of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event at The Farm on Rock Harbor Road in Orleans starting at 5pm.
According to AFCC President & CEO Kevin Howard, "I have been a fan of Mr Cardinal's work for many years. His bold use of color make his paintings vibrant and dynamic. Rhapsody in Blue is no exception and will be an amazing image to associate with the silver Anniversary concert."
A resident of Truro, Robert Cardinal has been living on Cape Cod for most of the past fifty years. In the late 1950's, he left Montreal, Canada and moved to Greenwich Village and from there, he followed his fellow artists on their spring pilgrimage to Provincetown.
Since his training at La Grande Chaumiere Art School in Paris, Robert has been fascinated with art history and his paintings have been particularly influenced by the masters of realism and impressionism including Goya, Maxfield Parrish and Edward Hopper.
Cardinal looks for harmony between nature and what is man-made in simple scenes: isolated beaches, lighthouses, lonely Cape homes. He stresses color, light and mood in an effort to achieve a moment in time using striking combinations of color that are bold and vibrant and even somewhat shocking in hue. Cardinal is represented by Addison Art Gallery in Orleans.
