Rocket Lab Launches Mississippi Operations

JACKSON, Miss. – Rocket Lab today held a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the start of its Mississippi operations. In September 2022, Rocket Lab announced that it would be locating an engine test facility for its new large rocket, Neutron, at NASA’s Stennis Space Center. Rocket Lab’s decision to test rocket engines in Mississippi will lead to significant capital investment and create dozens of jobs in Hancock County.

“This has been a record-shattering week for economic development and new capital investment in Mississippi,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off the weekend than by another company opening its doors in Mississippi for the first time. Mississippi’s economy is cleared for launch and it’s not touching down anytime soon. Congratulations to Rocket Lab on this incredible milestone.”

The start of Rocket Lab’s operations concludes a historic week for economic development and new capital investment in Mississippi. On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, Governor Reeves and the Mississippi Legislature finalized the largest economic development project in state history. The $2.5 billion economic development project will create 1,000 blue-collar jobs that offer an average salary of $93,000.

“Mississippi is open for business and the record $6 billion in new capital investment year-to-date proves that,” said Governor Tate Reeves.
