San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has named Marcus Wojtkowiak as new director at the Randall Museum, a one-of-a kind community learning center where children and adults can explore STEM, nature, and the arts through interactive exhibits, classes, presentations, and special events. With more than 15 years of experience in museum programming and science education, Wojtkowiak’s professional skills, educational background, and personal passion for nature-based science provide the exceptional qualities needed to lead the Randall Museum into its next chapter of creativity and discovery. Wojtkowiak assumed his role at the Randall Museum on April 15, 2023.

“For generations, the Randall Museum has sparked a love for nature, science and the arts,” said San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “Marcus Wojtkowiak has been a big part of making the natural world come alive for museum visitors and he is an excellent choice to lead the Randall into the future.”

“A talented slate of candidates was interviewed for the role of new museum director,” explained Tiffany Loewenberg, Executive Director, Randall Museum Friends. “Marcus has the right combination of skills and energy to propel the museum forward and I am thrilled to work alongside him.”

Wojtkowiak replaces Chris Boettcher, who is retiring after 18 years leading the Randall Museum. Boettcher will remain Manager of Cultural Affairs at the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Wojtkowiak is a longtime Randall Museum employee who has held a wide range of roles, bringing a wealth of home grown experience to the role of Museum Director. From 2010-2018 Wojtkowiak served as the Randall Museum’s science program coordinator, in which he applied his creative enthusiasm to design and implement a wide range of science educational programs, exhibits and special events, along with coordinating the annual San Francisco Middle School Science Fair, and rejuvenating the Randall's field trip program.

Since 2017, Wojtkowiak has acted as the regional Golden Gate STEM Fair director, planning and executing the competition for more than 200 students annually. Most recently, he served as an operations manager for Randall Museum Friends. In this capacity, Wojtkowiak spearheaded Randall on the Road, a new community outreach program providing engaging after-school science programs, worked as lead design for the Randall’s upcoming interactive exhibit Food for Thought, and has been in charge of training instructional staff as well as identifying and creating dynamic new community partnerships.

Wojtkowiak holds a bachelor’s degree in astronomy from the University of Colorado in Boulder and master’s degrees in business administration as well as museum studies at the John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley.
