WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA) issued the following statement after the horrific mass shooting in Monterey Park, CA:

“Like so many in our community, I am heartbroken by the mass shooting that took place in Monterey Park on Saturday. On Lunar New Year’s Eve, a night that should have been joyful, we instead witnessed yet another senseless act of gun violence right here in our own backyard. My prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific tragedy, and I want to thank our first responders for their service throughout the weekend. While we continue to learn the facts surrounding this dark day, I hope the community can begin to heal together as neighbors dedicated to standing against this kind of terror and violence wherever we see it.

“At the same time, we owe it to the victims to be true to the meaning of Lunar New Year. Optimism, unity, and new beginnings are more important than ever as we confront this darkness and stand together against the gun violence our communities have endured. As your Congresswoman, I am committed to working with state and local partners to ensure they have the resources they need to make our communities safer for everyone while advancing polices to prevent future gun violence.”
