February 2, 2024

8:00pm (doors open at 7:30): Konter Weiland Comedy Night

This extraordinary event that is free for members of the JEA and/or contributors to the Annual Jewish Community Campaign is a gift from Marcy & Jerry Konter in memory of their fathers. This year features comedians, Tom Cotter and Dan Naturman. Featuring two nationally known comics, Open Bar, and a Dessert Reception this is a "can't miss" evening. Tickets available at the JEA Front Desk till they run out.

7pm - Jewish Cultural Arts Film: Bella! This Woman's Place Is In The House

Opening Night Reception at 6pm followed by the movie, BELLA at 7pm. Chronicling the pioneering political career of NY Congresswoman, Bella Abzug, BELLA uses never-before-seen home movies, diaries, and a vast trove of newly-discovered news footage, The movie presentation will include a Q&A with US DOJ Attorney, Jill Steinberg. Documentary, 92 minutes

Join for lunch at Food for Thought with Savannah Music Festival's GENE DOBBS BRADFORD as he shares his personal story and all the wonderful upcoming shows at the Savannah Music Festival that helps enhance and define our Savannah community. Lunch at 12:30 (by reservation at 355-8111 ($7 per person) or just join us at 1pm for the presentation.

7pm - Savannah Jewish Cultural Arts Film: Remembering Gene Wilder

The world knows Gene Wilder as an endearing comic genius, but his gifts include writing and directing. Including interviews, clips and outtakes from the set, and excerpts from Wilder's memoir told in part through Wilder’s own voice (luckily he recorded anaudiobook which serves as narration), Remembering Gene Wilder is a treat to watch with its generous helpings of film clips from across Wilder’s career. Documentary 92 minutes

1:00pm - Lecture: Why The Jews?: Brendan Murphy

Award-winning Holocaust educator, Brendan Murphy will explore the history of antisemitism to better understand why the Jewish people have been demonized through the centuries and continues to do so in the modern era. This important free. open-to-the public, lecture will be preceded by a 12pm (by reservation) Deli Luncheon ($10 per person).

4:00pm - Savannah Jewish Film Festival Movie: The Catskills

The Catskills is a humorous and nostalgic tribute to what became affectionately known as the Borscht Belt. Stand-up comedians share their best shtick while former waiters, entertainers, and dance instructors recount tales of the family-run resorts and bungalows. This delightful film tracks the dramatic influx, peak, and decline of “the Jewish Alps.” From lox to herring, this celebration of Jewish-American life is all you can eat. Documentary, 86 minutes

Through an imaginary conversation between two iconic figures of civil rights history, Anne & Emmett examines the innocence of children thrust into the most horrific of circumstances. This live production, directed by Joanna Walchuk, is a history lesson about the importance of tolerance, compassion, and justice, to be acted on in life.

Join for lunch at Food for Thought with Melinda Hofstetter who will share her father's images of West Africa. In 1976, as part of a journey sponsored by the US office of Education, Seymour Hofstetter documented his journey with over 1,200 images (70 of which are featured in the Montage Gallery in February). Lunch at 12:30 (by reservation at 355-8111--$7 per person) or just join us at 1pm for the presentation.
