130 Students Across 7 Long Island High Schools to Attend

Sayville, NY -- 130 Long Island high school students with and without intellectual disabilities are attending the 2023 Section XI Unified Youth Summit.

What: The Special Olympics New York Unified Youth Summit is a free event for Long Island high school students offered as part of the Unified Champion Schools Program. The goal of this event is to bring students with and without disabilities together in a conference setting to educate and inspire them to become active participants in making a difference within their schools and communities.

Who: 130 Long Island high school students with and without intellectual disabilities, and 20 teachers and school staff from Commack HS, Earl L. Vandermeulen/Port Jefferson HS, Longwood HS, Northport HS, Patchogue-Medford HS, Rocky Point HS, and Sayville HS. Media must acquire permission for student images prior to publication.

Event will feature student presentations as well as leadership-building games and activities that will teach students how to make their schools a more inclusive place. Members of the media are cordially invited to attend.

When: November 3, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Where: Sayville Old Junior High School, 30 Greene Avenue, Sayville, NY 11782.
