SCGOP Condemns Efforts To Encourage Democrat Participation In Our Primaries

Columbia, SC - Republicans in the Palmetto State are just days away from the South Carolina Republican Presidential Preference Primary. On February 24th, our Party will nominate our preferred candidate for President of the United States. This is the most important function of any political party.

As this pivotal day approaches, the SCGOP has witnessed several outrageous calls from third party organizations that encourage Democrats to participate in the Republican primary. The South Carolina Republican Party has worked tirelessly for the past seven years to pass legislation to prevent Democrats from voting in our Primaries. The Party’s State Executive Committee passed a Resolution condemning this behavior at our most recent Executive Committee meeting.

“The South Carolina Republican Presidential Preference Primary has the best track-record in the country for picking presidents, and I’m not going to sit back and allow Democrats to tarnish our reputation,” SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick stated. “The South Carolina Republican Party has raised this issue for years now, but the only way to truly protect our Primaries is for our General Assembly to pass H. 3695, the “Voter Registration and Party Affiliation Act”.
