Scott Statement on Mass Shooting in Chesapeake

Government and Politics

November 23, 2022

NEWPORT NEWS, VA  – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement:

"The news of last night’s shooting in Chesapeake is a tragic shock for the Hampton Roads community. While I am thankful for the swift response of local law enforcement and the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, nothing will bring back those who have had their lives needlessly cut short. It is imperative that we ensure our communities and nation are better safeguarded against this sort of violence, as any life lost to gun violence is one too many. I have been in touch with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to ensure that the City of Chesapeake has all the federal support and resources it needs, especially victims counseling services. My sincere condolences go to those affected and their families as we attempt to grapple with this senseless act of violence, particularly so close to the holidays."
