Today, the U.S. House passed the Inflation Reduction Act, comprehensive legislation that will pay down the nation’s debt, invest in clean energy initiatives, extend expanded ACA subsidies, and lower prescription drug costs

On Sunday, Senator Reverend Warnock voted to pass the historic bill, which he championed in the Senate

Two major pieces of legislation that Senator Reverend Warnock introduced are included in the Inflation Reduction Act—his bill to cap insulin costs at $35 a month for patients on Medicare, and his plan to cap the cost of prescription drugs for seniors at $2,000 a year

Senator Reverend Warnock: “I’m glad to see my legislation to limit seniors’ prescription drug costs and cap insulin costs for Medicare patients pass the House […] This bill can’t get this bill signed into law soon enough”

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) issued the statement below following the United States House of Representatives’ passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes two pieces of legislation introduced and championed by the Senator that will reduce health care costs for Georgians. The House voted 220-207 to pass the comprehensive legislation, and the bill now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

“I’m glad to see my legislation to limit seniors’ prescription drug costs and cap insulin costs for Medicare patients pass the House, along with the rest of the Inflation Reduction Act that will strengthen health care and save Georgians money,” Senator Reverend Warnock said. “This bill can’t get this bill signed into law soon enough.”

The Inflation Reduction Act includes two proposals introduced by Senator Warnock—provisions from his bill to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month for Medicare patients, and his plan to cap the cost of prescription drugs for seniors at $2,000 a year. The Inflation Reduction Act also extends critical federal subsidies for patients who purchase health care on the ACA marketplaces, which will prevent those patients’ health care costs from spiking. Importantly, the bill also empowers Medicare to begin negotiating directly for the price of prescription drugs, a move that will lower drug costs for patients in the program.
