Vinegar Projects presents: Pasture + Post Film Discussion

June 7 | 7PM | Free
Join us for a free screening of Asa Mendelsohn's film, PASTURE, and a post film discussion moderated by Vinegar Projects. In PASTURE, a grassroots movement successfully resists private military development near the US-Mexico border in Southern California, where a young, trans New Yorker arrives in pursuit of an unlikely coalition. The film combines history, diary, and performance to intimately ask questions about solidarity, storytelling, and what it takes to change.

Joining director Asa Mendelsohn for the post film discussion are:

Dr. Michael Innis-Jiménez, Professor of American Studies at the University of Alabama; Lauren Jacobs, Assistant Director at the Magic City Acceptance Center; Dr. Fen Kennedy, Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Alabama and board member of Vinegar.

June 14 | FREE | 7PM

“Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.” -- Terrance Mann

Join professional actor Rachel Burttram for a candid conversation about working as a full-time actor both on the stage and screen. As a 25 year veteran of the industry, Rachel will share her actor's perspective about the differences in the theatre, TV, and film industries. Let's talk about the requirements, the challenges and the joys for actors -- be it on stage & screen.

Rachel Burttram is an award-winning professional actor who has been working on stage and on screen for over 25 years. A Birmingham native, her work on screen includes the recurring role of Betty Grissom in Disney+'s series THE RIGHT STUFF, based on the popular Tom Wolfe novel about the Mercury 7 program. June Book + Film Club is
The Talented Mr. Ripley

Book: The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith

“[A] riveting story that examines identity, ambition, sexuality, and a few different forms of love.” ? Chris Pavone, New York Times best-selling author

Film: The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, dir. Anthony Minghella)

“Minghella’s film provides what was then and is now Damon’s most multifaceted and daring role. That his performance went without a nomination at the Oscars represents just how out of touch the Academy Awards ceremonies can be in retrospect…. [T]hrough Damon, we can also observe the shattered interior psychology of Tom Ripley. At once, Damon captures his sensitivity and confusion, his vulnerability and duplicity, his ambivalence and desperation. The performance is played with enough subtlety through the highs and lows that cinephiles continue to discuss its nuances and the meaning behind Tom’s intimate scenes with [the other characters].” – Deep Focus Review
