Senator’s bipartisan bill protects Arizona servicemembers from contract cancelation penalties when following military orders to relocate

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the Emergency Relief for Servicemembers Act – bipartisan legislation expanding protections for servicemembers from contract cancelation penalties when following orders to relocate.

“Arizona servicemembers and their families sacrifice so much to keep us safe and secure, including frequent moves on military orders. They should be protected from unfair financial penalties for contract cancellations,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

Sinema’s bipartisan Emergency Relief for Servicemembers Act protects Arizona servicemembers from unfair penalties from telecommunications contract cancellations – allowing them to cancel TV, phone, and internet service providers without penalty when following military orders to relocate for at least 90 days. This bipartisan legislation expands protections to an Arizona servicemember who receives military orders for a Permanent Change of Station, enters a new telecommunications contract, then receives a Stop Movement Order from the U.S. Department of Defense in response to a local, national, or global emergency for no less than 30 days.
