Summer Art Classes Offered at CAC

This summer, the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria will offer art classes in drawing and painting. Visit  and choose ‘Education’ to learn more about these classes. No prior art making experience is required. Members of the Contemporary Art Center receive a discount. Classes are held on the 2nd floor of the facility. On eight Thursday evenings, starting July 27, Janet Keturi will teach Oil Painting. Beginners will learn the basic steps to completing a painting. Those ready for the next level may be given specific instruction more tailored for a specific project or direction that the student desires. Students must register no later than July 20. Cost per person is $90-nonmembers and $80-members.

In six Tuesday evening sessions, starting August 1, Figure Drawing: Open Studio offers a live model to draw or paint in whatever medium is desired. There is no instruction for this class. A monitor will direct the class and time the poses. The monitor and other students may offer encouragement and advice if asked. Students must register no later than July 25. Cost per person is $60-nonmembers and $50-members.

On six Wednesday evenings, starting August 2, Janet Keturi will teach Basic Drawing. Develop your observational abilities and rendering skills in this introduction to the principles of drawing. Use pencil, charcoal and other media while learning the fundamentals of composition, perspective, line and space. Students must register no later than July 26. Cost per person is $70-nonmembers and $60-members.
