Step back in time with Windsor Historical Society to explore Windsor’s changing streetscapes and historic household remedies this August!  Two engaging programs with Archivist Michelle Tom and Horticulturalist Gordon Kenneson are back by popular demand and will delight audiences of all ages.

Wednesday, August 17: A Century of Change: Windsor’s Streetscapes 1921-2021. Join historical society Archivist Michelle Tom from 10:00-11:30AM at the Windsor Senior Center for a fascinating photographic tour of Windsor’s evolving streetscapes through examination of period photos from the Society’s extensive collections. A trip down memory lane! Indoors at Windsor Senior Center. Free.

Saturday, August 20: Eat Your Medicine But Please Don’t Eat the Daisies. Popular horticulturalist and researcher Gordon Kenneson returns with another fascinating and humorous herbal medicine program. Held outdoors by the Society’s scenic kitchen garden from 10-11:30AM, learn how early English settler’s diagnosed and treated their many illnesses, and the traditional uses of garden herbs and other remedies to restore health. The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over four centuries. The Society’s museum and research library is located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and is open from 11 AM to 4 PM, Wednesday through Saturday. General admission to the library and historic houses is $8 for out-of-state or additional in-state adults, $6 for seniors and students, and free to all children under 12 and WHS members. All visitors are free to browse the museum store and exhibit galleries at no charge, thanks to generous support of the Town of Windsor, and Connecticut youth aged 18 and under are free thanks to the support of the State of Connecticut and Connecticut Humanities.
