TOMS RIVER – Celebrate National Native American Heritage Month by experiencing an authentic Pow-Wow at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch, 7 PM Thursday, November 30.

Citizens of New Jersey’s Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation will conduct the 90-minute program. “The Strength of Song and Dance” will feature evocative music and rhythmic movements traditional to the Lenape and Nanticoke tribes, and modern to all indigenous people.

Leading the program will be Tyrone “Dancing Wolf” Ellis, Jr., the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation’s Annual Pow-Wow and Program Coordinator and a ranking committee member within the tribe’s government. He is experienced in rattle, drum, and regalia making; singing, drumming; and beadwork which he learned from respected tribal elders.

Mr. Ellis, a New Jersey Folk Arts Apprenticeship Grant recipient is chiefly responsible for demonstrating the tribal nation’s arts to the public, representing the tribe to surrounding communities, and offering education in Native American culture.
