Fairfield, Conn - Teens, looking for something to do on summer afternoons?  Whether you want to do some volunteering, are a LEGO fan or want to try one of our creative Thursday afternoon programs, the Library is your go-to for summer afternoon fun. Starting June 20, Tuesdays will be “Big Build Tuesdays” at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library.  This is fun build time for all of you LEGO fans, with each week featuring a different LEGO kit, including:  Harry Potter, Star Wars, Minecraft , Super heroes and world famous architecture.

Starting June 21, Wednesdays are “Service Wednesdays” if you want to come by for volunteer hours at either the Main Library or, new this year, the Fairfield Woods Branch Library from noon to 3:00 pm.  At Main you can drop in any time during volunteer hours; at Woods you must register in advance due to limited availability.

Thursdays afternoons are “Build a Better World Days” with a variety of creative programs, including: learning about solar power and building your own pizza box solar powered oven, June 22; junk box inventions, June 29; making a wild flower seed bomb and butterfly feeder, July 6; learning to cook a meal with culinary student Tommy Quinn, July 20; and making a pet blanket for your own pet or to donate to a shelter, July 27.  We will meet at the Main and Fairfield Woods Branch Libraries, so check where we’ll be when you are registering.  Registration is required for each of the Thursday programs so that we have enough supplies on hand for our creating.
And don’t forget the annual Teen Summer Challenge!  This year’s theme is “Build a Better World”, and as always, the Challenge is not just about reading, it’s also about discovering, creating, doing and volunteering.  Teens entering grade 6 and up can begin by visiting www.fplteenspeak.wordpress.com  for Summer Challenge details.  Once you’ve registered and set up your personal profile, you can start earning points toward prizes.  The more points earned the more chances to win.  Plus a weekly raffle for gift cards to local and online stores.
