Tell Governor Little: Protect Idaho Libraries and Veto House Bill 710

Government and Politics

April 4, 2024

Libraries play an essential role in our communities. They provide access to information and resources, promote literacy and lifelong learning, and serve as a gathering space.

House Bill 710 creates cash incentives to attack libraries and allows parents to sue if their child receives materials they find “harmful.” Regardless of political affiliation or where they live, everyone deserves the right to access books, reading material, and information they want.

Costly lawsuits that cause libraries to close, the end of library cards for kids, and dangerously broad bill language — where even a reference to a gay person could be considered offensive — are just some of the terrifying implications. A handful of extremists who disagree with the contents of certain books shouldn't be able to make these decisions for the rest of us
