On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, the Redding City Council approved the creation of a Tree Management Ordinance Update Committee (TMOUC) responsible for reviewing and updating the City of Redding Tree Management Ordinance. This Committee will help balance sustainable community development with the need to protect and preserve native tree species amidst recent development in the Redding area.

“Trees and open spaces are an important part of a vibrant community, and preserving the natural beauty of the city’s landscape must be balanced with the ongoing needs of a growing city like Redding. The Tree Management Ordinance Update Committee will be an important component in striking that balance,” says Barry Tippin, Redding City Manager.

Updating the Tree Management Ordinance has been a long-standing goal of the Redding City Council and interested community members. Now that a permanent Director of Development Services and additional planning staff are in place at the City of Redding, there is a renewed effort to update the ordinance originally adopted by the Redding City Council in July of 2006. The formation of this advisory committee is the first step in engaging with interested parties in the community regarding what updates, if any, need to be made to the current ordinance.

The City of Redding is accepting applications from community members interested in joining the TMOUC. The committee will be comprised of fifteen members. Ten will be community members appointed by the Redding City Council, three will be from the City's Planning Commission, and two will be from the Community Services Advisory Commission (CSAC).

Applications for the TMOUC are due by Monday, August 15. The Redding City Council will select committee members at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 6.
