‘The Hairy Ape’ Debuts on May 30 at the Irish Cultural Center

Ronin Theatre Co. presents Eugene O’Neill’s social class crisis

Phoenix, AZ -- Starting from May 30th, Ronin Theatre Company presents a limited run of Eugene O’Neill’s THE HAIRY APE at the Irish Cultural Center in Phoenix.

The son of Irish immigrants, O’Neill’s play is about a steamship stoker who is belittled by the spoiled daughter of a rich industrialist. “One scathing insult erupts into a social-class crisis,” said the show’s director Skip Emerson.

In his Ronin Theatre debut, Logan Watters portrays the protagonist ship worker Bob “Yank” Smith. Watters has also performed in ORANGE SKIES and MISSED APPOINTMENT at other Valley venues.

Antoinette Martin-Hanson plays the socialite, Mildred Douglas. Martin-Hanson has been in several Ronin productions including LYSISTRATA, MONSTER OF TEMPE TOWN LAKE and PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD.

Supporting cast members Michael Bundy II (Secretary, Ensemble), Ty Hainlen (Prisoner, Ensemble), Jason Hall (Aunt, Ensemble), Seth Scott (Long, Ensemble) and Carlin Thomas (Paddy, Ensemble) bring unique backgrounds to their roles ranging from stage to film.

The remainder of Ronin’s 2024 Season features VENUS IN FUR, HAUNTED CASTLE and CORIOLANUS. VENUS will be staged at Stage Left Productions in Surprise and the last two at the Irish Cultural Center.

THE HAIRY APE runs May 30 through June 2 with two matinees and three evening performances.
