Sea turtles have been on Earth for more than 100 million years. However, their populations are rapidly declining due to a variety of factors, such as habitat loss and pollution. That’s why we are working with other zoos and aquariums to implement conservation strategies and actions that will protect these animals from extinction.

In addition to these efforts, our conservation scientists also regularly monitor the water quality and animal populations of Norwalk Harbor, work to study and restore coastal salt marshes, and work alongside the fishing industry to recover marine debris.

Countdown to NOON Year's Eve at the Aquarium
Sunday, December 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us for our "Noon Year's Eve" celebration – perfect for families with young children who want to celebrate the end of 2023 together, but not at the stroke of midnight.

Throughout the holiday season, Santa will enter our “Ocean Beyond the Sound” exhibit, which is home to several 8- to 9-foot sharks. He regularly swims up to the window and poses with children – so bring a camera to snap a unique holiday photo!

Know a Teen Interested in Conservation?

Students 14 to 18 years old are invited to apply for our unique

ECHO Teen Volunteer program where teens share the issues of marine debris with Aquarium guests while also participating in related work in the field with Aquarium staff.

The application deadline is Tuesday, January 2.
