The Diamondback Terrapin is a species of special concern in the state of Connecticut. One of the greatest threats to turtles, including the diamondback terrapin, is road mortality.

We're looking for Volunteers for our Terrapin Tracking Team to help monitor coastal roadways for terrapin mortalities this spring and summer. Join us for a virtual training session on March 28 to learn all about data collection and protocols.

This past Saturday, March 6, nearly 200 countries agreed to a legally-binding “high seas treaty” to protect marine life in international waters, which cover around half of the planet’s surface.

The Maritime Aquarium applauds the United Nations for its leadership in protecting the biodiversity of the high seas. Here at the Aquarium, we remain committed to our conservation work in Long Island Sound including wetlands restoration and research on local wildlife populations, which contribute to the overall health of our ocean!
