Summer Reading Program at the Mystic & Noank Library

June Programs for Kids and Families!

 

Join us this summer for the Mystic & Noank Library's Summer Reading Program to promote educational enrichment and to encourage readers of all ages. This year's program theme is Read Beyond the Beaten Path, and will feature a number of related programs for kids & families, teens, and adults that you can find on the Library's website. The Summer Reading Program runs from Tuesday, June 21 to Saturday, August 6. Visit the Library or call to find more information about signing up!

 

Wings of Fire In-Person Meet-up

Join Hazel and Iris for A Wings of Fire book discussion meet-up for ages 8 and up! We will be focusing on the fourth book in the series.

 

No Sew T-Shirt Book Bag: An Upcycling Workshop for Kids 8+

June 22 at 11:00 AM

 

Join Hazel and turn your old t-shirt into a book bag. All you need for this easy upcycle project, is a t-shirt and a pair of scissors! For ages 8 and up!

 

Family Yoga on the Library Lawn!

Join us for family yoga. This is a joyful way for children to explore movement and develop physical skills, learn yoga poses through active imagination, and creatively channel energy by following movement instruction and practicing calming moments.

 

Twisty Kids Yoga for 6 to 9 Year Olds

Join us for Twisty Kids, a free creative movement class for 6 to 9 year olds presented by Yoga with Miss Kim!  Kids will learn creative movement concepts and yoga postures with kids' imaginations and fun in mind.

 

Project O'  Presents Marine Critter Bins

June 23 at 1:00 PM  

 

Students rotate in small groups between bins containing a variety of marine organisms from Long Island Sound. For each organism, students will make predictions about how the animals move, eat, and survive. Students will identify and discuss structures and behaviors that they think are adaptations.

 

DPNC Presents Construction Zone: Beavers at Work

If you are camping in Connecticut, beavers are always secretly at work somewhere nearby building their own habitat and building habitat for many other animals in the process. Come learn about nature's amazing engineers, meet animals that share their habitat and build your own beaver dam to test!

 

Mystic Museum of Art presents a Printmaking Workshop for Kids!

June 24 at 2:00 PM

 

Students learn how to design printing plates and to print multiple artworks from them. For grades 2 and up!

 

Arts and Crafts: Creating with Nature Workshop for Kids!

Spend some time in nature creating beautiful leaf rubbings with chalk and design bean mandalas.

 

Junk Journal 1 Workshop for Tweens & Teens: Paper Bag Journals Small and Large

We will be creating books made through found and recycled materials to be used as a way to collect and record memories, thoughts, ideas, and inspiration. Bring in scrapbook items to start journaling right away.

 

Animal Adventures on the Library Lawn!

Come meet a variety of animals including a porcupine, small goat, and a fox! Hear interesting stories and information about them in this fun and exciting program.

 

Cool-ology presents Exploring Nature: Plants, A Workshop for Kids!

Join us for this highly interactive STEAM workshop for kids ages 7 and older!

 

15 Minute Field Trips

Look closely! Ants are everywhere and we hardly notice! Using hoops and string, we'll look from an ant's point of view and tally up behaviors we observe. We will then create an underground treasure map with tunnels, worms, and more creatures hidden underground.

 

Playhouse Theatre Academy presents a Theatre Program for Kids!

June 29 at 2>00 PM

 

Playhouse Theatre Academy will lead a free one-hour introduction to theatre for ages 4 - 9. Children will learn the fundamentals of theatre, including theatre games and exploring how actors use their emotions to tell stories. It's called a play, so let's play.

 

In-Person Chess Club

June 30 at 3:00 PM

 

Welcome to our Chess Club for kids grade 3 and up!  Children should know how the chess pieces move before their first visit. We teach chess strategy, chess sportsmanship, and organize games.

Our operating hours for these services are from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Thursday and Friday, and Saturday 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
