CHICAGO – September 28, 2023 – The Pritzker Military Foundation, a longtime philanthropic partner of the Norwich University Military Writers’ Symposium, announces a commitment of $500,000 to create an endowment for the program. An additional $500,000 in matching funds is available under the grant.

Renamed the “Carlo D’Este ’58 Military Writers’ Endowment” to honor the legacy of late symposium co-founder Carlo D’Este, the funding is essential to the symposium’s longevity. It will support operating costs, the William E. Colby Award and year-round student enrichment opportunities on military history and current affairs. This year, the fund will receive $100,000, the third installment of a five-year gift totaling $500,000.

“The Pritzker Military Foundation and I continue to recognize the profound impact the Norwich University Military Writers’ Symposium has made over the years and is proud to support its endeavors,” said Colonel (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), founder of the Pritzker Military Foundation. “This grant not only ensures the continued success and longevity of the symposium but also reinforces its commitment to fostering intellectual growth and promoting meaningful discussions within the military community.”

Col. Pritzker received an Honorary Doctorate of Military Science from Norwich University in 2007 and currently serves as a Trustee Emerita. In 2019, she was honored by Norwich University as one of the 78 most influential individuals in the University’s second century, during its bicentennial commemorations.

The only program of its kind at an American university, the Norwich University Military Writers’ Symposium convenes authors and experts in the fields of military history, intelligence, and current affairs to offer important perspectives on pressing global concerns.

“The Pritzker Military Foundation’s extraordinary and longtime partnership with Norwich University remains critical to shaping the next generation of leaders. Its dedication to our Military Writers’ Symposium provides one-of-a-kind opportunities for students to engage with world-class writers and thinkers on some of the most pressing issues of our time,” said Norwich University President Dr. Mark Anarumo. “Furthermore, its support of Student Life helps cultivate character-building on our campus, which is known for experiential learning, and enables student experiences ranging from Model UN field trips to support for our many musical groups.”

The 2023 Norwich University Military Writers’ Symposium, scheduled October 10 - 11, will emphasize the University’s unique connection to the Special Operations community and feature popular authors, former operators, and other experts to discuss a variety of critical topics related to the field and the Norwich community at large.
