Welcome to a Win-Win Winter!
Hello friends,

It may be cold and grey on the Outer Cape these days, but inside the Provincetown Theater, things are heating up as we finalize new programming for the spring, as well as shore up choices for our five-show 2023 season – with tickets & subscriptions going on sale soon!

Meanwhile, we’re excited to announce that the new year has already brought in some wonderful news from critics and audiences alike.

Critics' Accolades!

In their year-end roundup of shows produced in our region in 2022, reviewers at the Cape Cod Times bestowed the Provincetown Theater with several humbling honors:

- Best Play for our Cape Cod premiere last summer of Robert Chesley’s daring and heart-wrenching gay love story Jerker.

- Best Actress to Dian Hamilton for her fearless portrayal of a dementia-ridden grandmother in our Cape Cod premiere last fall of Stephen Karam’s Tony Award-winning drama The Humans.

- Favorite Theatrical Moment to the harmoniously performed beauty of the 4-person ensemble in our Cape Cod premiere of Tiny Beautiful Things, based on the bestselling book by Cheryl Strayed, adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos.

But the good news ain’t over yet!

BroadwayWorld Awards!

Also in this month, the results from online voters like you (!) for the “People’s Choice Awards of Massachusetts,” the annual Broadwayworld.com Regional Awards for Boston. Indeed, in a slew of tightly contested races, the Provincetown Theater edged out over two dozen theaters in the Boston metropolitan area in three major categories:

- Best New Play or Musical to Sarah Schulman for our world premiere of her ferociously literate and audaciously hilarious play The Lady Hamlet.

- Best Performer in Play to The Lady Hamlet’s Jennifer Van Dyck for her searingly sensitive and swashbuckling performance in the show’s title role.

- Best Supporting Performance by an Actor in a Play to Scott Cunningham, who, literally, saved our RE-premiere of Mae West’s The Drag by stepping into the wisecracker role of “Clem” 72 hours before opening night, when the originally cast actor was sideswiped by illness. Scottcakes to the rescue!

Our Warm Winner

Speaking of winners, we’re happy to report that the winning ticket for the holiday fundraising raffle of the handmade quilt – which raised over $1K for the theater – was, in fact, announced from an onstage drawing during the final matinee performance of the Townie Holiday Extravaganza. And for those of you who weren’t in the audience that afternoon, the quilt goes to… Dr. Margaret Tilton of Truro!
