THE ARTS MEAN BUSINESS ON LONG ISLAND

Long Island Arts Alliance partnered with Americans for the Arts to conduct an Arts and Economic Impact Study specific to Long Island for the very first time.

With help from our cultural partners, we gathered insights from nearly 1,000 attendees at various arts and culture events throughout Nassau and Suffolk to report on the social and economic impact the creative sector has on the Island.

We’ve connected with over 400 cultural nonprofits and other stakeholders to understand the arts landscape's role in COVID recovery, the amount of money these nonprofits pump directly into our economy, and how many jobs they support.

Well, the results are in - and the data is impressive, to say the least.

Long Island's Nonprofit Arts & Culture Sector Generated $330,000,000 in Economic Activity in 2022

When people go out to experience a play or concert or gather for a cultural experience – everyone benefits. For example, the coffee shop or restaurant where someone stops before or after a show, the drinks enjoyed in the lobby, or the childcare spent to enjoy a night without the kids. All this adds up.

The average arts attendee on Long Island spends $37.31 per person per event beyond the cost of admission

Even in the wake of COVID-19 and the resulting economic recession, the arts continue to provide a significant boost to recharging the economy in America’s local communities. The arts draw people out of their homes and back into community life—spending time with each other and spending their money with local merchants.

Over 4 million people attended arts and cultural events across Long Island in 2022.

This is just the beginning.
