Tom & Meg Stallard present In The Heights

Opening on our Main Stage August 5th!

Tickets Now On Sale HERE

From Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the Broadway phenomenon Hamilton, comes our 2022-2023 season opener, In The Heights. It's the incredible four-time Tony Award winning (including Best Musical) production about family, community, and life in the Latino neighborhood of Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan, New York City. Known as a place where windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of music, it’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, pressures, and where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions to keep.

Usnavi, the main character played by Elio Gutiérrez-Montoya (pictured), is a bodega owner who supplies neighbors with their morning coffee, papers, and a place to connect with each other. He works hard and aspires to open a bar in his home country of the Dominican Republic some day. His girlfriend, Vanessa, works in a beauty salon and has big dreams of her own - they exude the sense of hope that so many immigrants are fueled by. Bursting with lively dance scenes and a score that features hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and soul music the story explores three days in their and other characters’ lives.

The production is directed & choreographed by Jacob Gutiérrez-Montoya, with music direction by Sandra Gallegos. Performances are set for Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Reserved seats are $30 for adults, $23 for seniors 62+, and $15 for children 17 and under. Balcony tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children. Flex Pass specials and group rates are available.

The show will run from August 5 through August 28. Online tickets are on sale now and available at the button below. Also available through our box office (530) 666-9617/340 Second Street, Woodland. Hours: Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Come enjoy an evening of celebration. We'll highlight the shows of this past season, our wonderful actors, and the people who volunteer & work behind-the-scenes to bring us such wonderful productions. Following the program, a champagne & dessert reception will be held in Heritage Plaza. Open to the public and free of charge. Ballots will go out this week to season ticket holders for voting. Please fill out and return ASAP - voting deadline is August 1.

The Woodland Opera House Chesley Awards are named in honor of Gene Chesley. Gene was a Dramatic Art Department instructor and lecturer at UC Davis for 17 years, a designer, and theatre historian. He was also instrumental in bringing our theatre back to life in the 1980s – a debt of gratitude that we will never lose sight of.

Understudies (and Crew) Jump Into Action!

It's important for us to take a few moments to thank the understudies that helped us through some performances of our recent Bye Bye Birdie production. Being an understudy is serious business, and when some cast members became ill, these actors did a great job of jumping into action!

We are grateful, and we'd like to give a “shout out” to these individuals. Pictured left to right are Ania Mieszkowska, Brady Stephens, Amaralyn Ewey, and Amelia Robinson-Burmester. In addition, several crew members worked double-duty during the show - many thanks to them as well, your hard work and "show must go on" efforts are greatly appreciated!

Outreach Program Success!

Congratulations to our Theatre And Dance Annex (TADA) Outreach Team for their final performance at Esparto High School! This was a joint effort with Esparto Elementary and the Esparto Unified School District. Students were introduced to the performing arts during a 6-week session that culminated in a performance, “Disney - The Movies, The Music.”

Many thanks and congratulations to instructors Jeff Teague, Ellieza Barth, and Irma Weldon (pictured left to right). We love that you are sharing the joy of theatre with these students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to it.
