The playwrights, cast, and crew of The Ghost of Woodland Opera House had a wonderful weekend with the premiere of the show! They enjoyed the traditional opening night festivities (see photo) and received a wonderful response from theatre goers to the play - including a standing ovation!

In honor of the production (and the season) we have another “Ghost Story” for you! Here’s an account from one of our actors:

"Back in 2006, I had the privilege of playing in the Opera House production of Fiddler on the Roof. Before one of the performances, I and another actor had arrived early, and we were the only ones in the green room. She asked me who was in the photograph that was hanging on the back wall, and I told her it was William Porter. Then I started telling her the story of how he died and that he was still around. - Here I need to interject a little back story... in our production of Fiddler, the main characters were the only ones that used real candles during the "Sabbath Prayer" scene. The ensemble would come onto the stage during the song, and they all carried battery powered candles with the bulb on the top that is shaped like a candle flame. These electric candles were kept in a box on a table in the green room. -

So, I'm sitting there telling my castmate about Mr. Porter's story, and in the middle of it one of these electric candles turned on all by itself. She immediately told me to stop telling the story, and as soon as I agreed to do so, the candle went back out.”

Spooky, right? Learn more about William Porter - played by Rodger McDonald, posing next to a vintage *Woodland Fire Department truck - and how the playwrights envision his existence, by coming to The Ghost of Woodland Opera House. On our historic stage through October 30 (excluding this Friday, October 14 – no show), we’re sure you’ll enjoy this “chilling” original dramedy. And who knows, you may even feel a presence while in the theatre!

Bring friends & family for a fun pre-Halloween outing. Reserved seats are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors 62+, and $15 for children 17 and under. Balcony tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children. Flex Pass specials and group rates are available. Purchase at the button below or at our Box Office (530) 666-9617 / 340 Second Street.

*Many thanks to Josh Hilliard and the Woodland Fire Department for arranging the display of the fire truck in Heritage Plaza. Thanks also to Paul Zindel & Chris Taloff for the photo.

Guild Event & Stroll Tours

The Guild was extremely busy this past week! On Thursday they held their special event to welcome new ushers to the organization. Ushers toured the Opera House, while learning about policies and procedures. They were then treated to a lovely spread of appetizers, desserts, and beverages, and were special guests to a sneak preview of The Ghost of Woodland Opera House.

In addition, on Saturday Guild docents led tours of our fair building in celebration of the Stroll Through History. According to Guild member & docent, Lou Anderson, “we had well over 200 visitors.” Needless to say, the tours were a great success! Pictured top are (left to right): Guild Vice President - Kelly Coleman, House Manager - Irma Weldon, House Manager - Rebecca Greb. Broadway Bound Performs at NAMI Rally

Members of our Broadway Bound Training and Performance Group performed at the Yolo County Rally for Recovery for the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI.) NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. This rally is a way to bring together the community in support of those living with mental illness, and the resources that NAMI provides to the greater Yolo County region.

Singing songs about growing through challenges, seeing the opportunities through any obstacle, staying true to oneself, and the power of a simple voice, our performers brought smiles – and yes, even happy tears – to those in attendance.

A round of applause goes out to the Broadway Bound members that performed: Abby Greene, Anna Coleman, Auden Cunningham, Kalysta Fuller, Malaya Day, Samirah Rosendale, and Zea Day.

Coming Next Month!

We can't wait for the holidays...and this production! Based on humorist, Jean Shepherd's memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s, A Christmas Story is a gem of a show that should definitely get on your list of to-dos.

Enthusiastic 9-year-old Ralphie is determined to succeed in his quest to find a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the Christmas tree. His parents are hard to convince but he is persistent nonetheless. The play includes all of the hilarious elements from the beloved 1983 movie, and it will be a must-see for all ages!
