From: Total Eclipse: Art in the Dark Art Festival

The Total Eclipse: Art in the Dark Art Festival is a 3-day art festival to learn about and observe the total eclipse.

On day one, designated artists will begin creating a visual piece developing each day until the eclipse is complete. Simultaneously, each day will include performances by local spoken word artists, musical artists, and dancers, a deejay, 17 merchandise vendors, several food trucks, and telescope classes taught by UAMS outside; and voter registration sign-up, children’s book readings, art exhibition, and additional shopping on the inside.

Physicist and Space Launch Systems Quality Engineer at NASA K. Renee Horton will be in attendance to speak about her experience working for NASA and her new children’s book, Dr. H Explores the Universe: Jupiter to Uranus. Horton is the first black person to receive a Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering with a concentration in Physics from the University of Alabama. She is an advocate for black women in STEM fields and for disability rights.
